We are looking for a Technical Superintendent to ensure the safe, efficient, and cost-effective operation of the barge fleet, overseeing maintenance, repairs, compliance with regulations, and overall technical performance.

Tasks & responsibilities:

  • Ensure the safe, efficient, and economical operation of all company-owned and managed barges, adhering to class and statutory regulations.
  • Oversee the implementation and effectiveness of the Planned Maintenance System (PMS) for barges, following the company's Quality and Safety Management System.
  • Maintain awareness of the latest inland navigation industry regulations and ensure compliance.
  • Conduct regular inspections of barges (at least once every two months) and report on the current status of equipment, machinery, and structural conditions.
  • Plan and oversee all repairs, ensuring timely completion and adherence to the operational budget.
  • Monitor fuel and lubrication oil consumption daily and report performance to the CTO.
  • Supervise docking repairs and ensure vessels are delivered back on schedule.
  • Prepare monthly technical performance reports for the CTO and monitor vessel performance.
  • Investigate accidents/incidents and provide recommendations for corrective action.
  • Prepare budgets for technical maintenance and monitor related expenses.
  • Manage inventory of spare parts and stores onboard the barges, ensuring proper storage and maintenance.
  • Process spare parts requisitions and monitor the timely supply of required spares.
  • Review purchase requisitions for accuracy and propose suppliers to the procurement department.
  • Report on daily operations, budgeting performance, and incidents involving barges.

Requirements Technical Superintendent

  • Minimum of 3+ years of experience in a relevant field.
  • Mechanical engineering background or equivalent technical knowledge gained through experience.
  • At least 2 years of experience with tanker inspection systems.
  • Knowledge of ISO, Flag State, and Classification Society procedures and regulations.
  • Fluency in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Strong management skills, with the ability to lead a crew effectively.
  • Ability to work under pressure and in a multicultural environment.
  • Proficiency with computers and office software.
  • Strong leadership, administrative, and managerial skills.
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and adapt to changing environments.
  • Good communication, planning, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
